Songbird Essentials Squirrel Resistant Palace Suet Bird Feeder

We bought this for the little birds and not for squirrels this keeps the big birds from eating the suet and we love it

Great product. Works as advertised.

I had to modify the suet cage on the inside to accommodate a plastic cup to hold grape jelly for feeding Baltimore Orioles. It took the Orioles several days to figure out how to get through the outside cage. I would suggest development of a similar cage that serves the purpose of feeding the Orioles. We have robins and blackbirds that eat the grape jelly set out for the Orioles.

Awesome!!! The squirrels can't get the suet, I am so pleased! I have had so much trouble with the squirrels this year that it isn't any fun watching the birds because the feed or suet is eaten by the squirrels. I've had to fill the feeders every other day. The squirrels are watching the birds eat but they can't. Thank you again!!!

This really works! The squirrels and large birds don't bother it (although they've tried). When I first got it, the small birds wouldn't use it. So I put it on the ground by the sunflower feeder and put pieces of bread close to the inside suet cage so they would have to go inside to feed. After two days, I stopped using the bread and hung the feeder. They've been using it ever since. The only reason I deducted a star is the chain is a little flimsy.

It is a good thing I know how to repair things. The first couple of days the bigger birds tried to get to the food, they broke the chain on top and when it hit the ground the lid keepers bent and the lid would not stay closed. I got some of my nylon braided cord out and replaced the lid keepers and made a new tether that replaced the chain. Now ti works great and I have no problems.

The feeder keeps the squirrel out. The chain is weak, it broke after about a month.

within a week of putting the feeder out, the flimsy chain broke. i replace it with a heavier chain and it's fine now. this type feeder was hard to find and i was very happy to find this so i bought 2! i still have not put up the other one and probably won't even use it. it does keep the squirrels from feeding. but the blackbirds are such a nuisance now. i think the blackbirds broke the chain.

I would suggest only buying this feeder if you plan on modifying it to work properly. The only reason I did not return it is because I like the design of the suet feeder itself, but the hardware provided to hang it and close the lid is flimsy and failed during the first squirrel attack within hours of hanging it on the first day.

Chain was weak and poor quality. It broke as soon as it was hung. I replaced chain with a heavier quality.
