Droll Yankees

Wonderful feeder. I hang feeders on a 15' tall anti-bear pole and want easy to open and fill feeders. This one is very easy to fill. It does not allow anything larger than a Downy Woodpecker in. The open mesh bottom prevents buildup of debris and bird waste. Attracts huge number of Goldfinches, House Finches, Downy Woodpeckers and other smaller birds. Grackles CANNOT get food from this feeder. Sadly, English Sparrows can, but they do not overwhelm the other birds. I have been using it for many weeks now, and it is clearly the best feeder of its type I have ever used in well over 20 years of bird feeding.

Purchased the Droll Yankees Jagunda squirrel proof bird feeder as a Christmas gift for my brother-in-law. He said it works great and is really happy with it. Thank you and will be purchasing another squirrel proof bird feeder in April, 2019.

Tucked onto a Vitex tree, it was used almost immediately, but is too small for more than one Cardinal at a time. The size seemed to create fussing at the feeder. It is well made.

Once the Cardinals became familiar with the feeder, it is well used.

I so liked the first one of these feeders that I bought that I purchased this second one! The birds love it. I have had all kinds of birds love it and eat from the tray---they feel safe since they can see from all sides and fly through the feeder if necessary. I had cardinal parents with their first brood and then their second brood after they fledged all eating from the feeders at the same time---and then doves, blue jays, chickadees, and titmice eating from the tray surface, with woodpeckers eating peanuts hanging from the edge. The plastic overhang keeps the feed reasonably dry unless there is rain blowing sideways. Can't wait for the migratory birds to find these feeders as the fall migration goes on!

Finally, found a bird feeder that red squirrels cannot chew through and destroy! I love that feature. Would have given 5 stars, but it is tricky to reassemble after being taken apart for cleaning. The metal ports are not permanently attached, and have to be realigned with the ring pull post, which is somewhat difficult and requires a good deal of tactility and patience. Would be a perfect product if the ports were permanent and the bottom could be easily removed for cleaning.

I wanted a bird feeder for ONLY small birds. It works most of the time. However, the distance from outside to feed opening is too short. Long neck birds like Red headed woodpeckers could still use the feeder and chase the small birds away. There needs to be a little more distance from outside to feed opening so no large birds can use it. It is very sturdy.

This item is a great feeder stand enhancement, with no tools required, and ease of application.
